Who are the Dubai Mighty Camels?

Here are the basics, with the source for each:

Fact Detail Source
Founded 1994 Gulf Today, Nov 2024; International Hockey Wiki
League Emirates Hockey League (EHL) Elite Prospects, 2026-27
Home ice Dubai Ice Rink, The Dubai Mall Wikipedia
Chairman Vladimir Burdun Gulf Today, Nov 2024
Players Mostly expatriates Wikipedia
2026-27 so far 0-3, sixth of six Elite Prospects, 27 Oct 2026

Gulf Today's November 2024 article gives 1994 as the founding year but, in the same piece, says the team was formed "nearly two decades ago". Those two statements do not match. We use 1994 because International Hockey Wiki gives the same year.

Burdun is also described by Gulf Today as founder and CEO of Emirates Sports Group, which runs the league. Wikipedia says he has been league president since November 2018. Read more about the league itself in our Emirates Hockey League guide.

How many titles have the Camels won?

The answer depends on the source:

  • Wikipedia lists five: 2011-12, 2012-13, 2015-16, 2017-18 and 2020-21. It also says the April 2018 win made the Camels the league's most successful club at that point.
  • Gulf Today (November 2024) says five, the latest in 2021.
  • Elite Prospects marks "Champion" in four seasons: 2011-12, 2015-16, 2017-18 and 2020-21. For 2012-13 it shows a second-place regular season and no play-off result.
  • International Hockey Wiki (undated) lists league titles in 2012 and 2013, which fits Wikipedia's first two seasons.

Three of four sources support a 2012-13 title, so five is the more common count. Elite Prospects may simply be missing that play-off record. We show both counts on our directory entry.

Season by season

Elite Prospects publishes the Camels' regular-season record for every season since 2011-12, except 2019-20. Wins and losses below are as shown, without overtime results.

Worked example: reading the recent slide

The table shows a clear pattern. From 2011-12 to 2018-19 the Camels never finished below fifth and reached a final or won the title in five of the eight seasons listed. Since 2024-25 they have won 8 of 34 regular-season games (6 + 2 + 0 wins from 16 + 15 + 3 games). In 2026-27 they had scored 6 goals and conceded 33 after three games, per Elite Prospects. Three games is a small sample, and the season has a long way to go.

Where do the Camels play?

Wikipedia gives Dubai Ice Rink, on the ground floor of The Dubai Mall, as the Camels' home. The rink's own site says it hosts ice hockey games and practices. Gulf Today reported that in the 2024-25 season, league games were played on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 20:30, at Dubai Mall, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi rinks, with free entry for residents and visitors.

Neither Elite Prospects nor the league had published a 2026-27 fixture list when we checked. The team's own social channels are the most likely place to find the week's games. If you plan to go, also read Dubai Ice Rink prices and rules; the rink's spectator charge applies to public sessions, and we have not confirmed whether it applies on league nights.

Notable moments

  • Oman, 2019. Dubai Eye 103.8 reported on 13 October 2019 that the Camels won the second edition of an Oman ice hockey tournament, beating the Canucks in the final.
  • Israel–UAE games, 2020. On 18 and 19 December 2020 the Camels hosted Israel's Bat Yam Chiefs in Dubai. The Times of Israel reported that organisers called it the first sports match between Israeli and Emirati teams; the Chiefs won both games.
  • Club tournaments. International Hockey Wiki (undated) says the club held its 20th international tournament in April 2015 and ran an amateur men's league for less experienced players. We have not found a current source for either, so treat them as history.

Can you play for the Mighty Camels?

The Camels' EHL side is an adult team of experienced players, many of them expatriates. If you have played before, contact the club about trials through its own channels, listed on our directory page. We could not confirm whether the club's recreational adult league is running in 2026-27.

If you are new to hockey or returning after years away, start with adult ice hockey in Dubai, which covers beginner sessions, pick-up and kit. The other Dubai team in the EHL, Galaxy Warriors, is the adult side of Galaxy Hockey.

What to check before you act

  • Check the Camels' own channels for 2026-27 game nights before going to watch.
  • Ask Dubai Ice Rink whether a spectator charge applies on league nights.
  • Treat title counts as disputed: five on Wikipedia and Gulf Today, four on Elite Prospects.
  • Standings change weekly; the figures here are from 27 October 2026.
  • Spot an error? Send us a source and we will correct it.
