Adults can play ice hockey in Dubai, whether they are complete beginners or played for years back home. The clearest published option is Galaxy Hockey Academy in Mirdif, which describes its adult hockey as for "beginners to league veterans", with practices, pick-up games and a team. Beyond that, there are six Emirates Hockey League teams, ice you can rent as a group, and adult tournaments. Fees are rarely published, so ask before you pay.

Where can adults play ice hockey in Dubai?

This is what we could verify on 23 October 2026.

Dubai Ice Rink's Hockey Academy is for ages 6 to 18 only, so it is not an adult option.

I have never played: where do I start?

Start with skating, not hockey. Hockey drills assume you can stop, turn and skate backwards. If you cannot, you will spend most of a hockey session just staying upright.

Some practical steps:

1. Get comfortable on public sessions. Dubai Ice Rink sessions last 90 minutes with skates included. See our Dubai Ice Rink prices guide.
2. Take skating lessons. Sport Society Ice Rink in Mirdif runs Learn to Skate coaching for all levels, plus pay-as-you-go and 3, 5 or 10-class packages. It does not publish prices online. Its site lists 04 607 2515 in the header (another number, 04 607 2505, also appears) and [email protected].
3. Move into an adult hockey programme. Galaxy's adult hockey starts at beginner level. Ask how much skating ability they expect on day one.

Is there pick-up or drop-in hockey in Dubai?

Galaxy Hockey Academy lists pick-up games as part of its adult hockey. It does not publish days, times or a drop-in fee. Contact it on +971 50 859 9547 (phone and WhatsApp, as listed on its site).

We did not find any other regular, publicly advertised drop-in session in Dubai. Some adult groups rent ice privately. Bayut's Dubai Mall rink page (undated) says teams and schools can rent Dubai Ice Rink by emailing [email protected]. If you have a group of friends who already play, that is the route to your own ice time.

Can I join an Emirates Hockey League team?

The Emirates Hockey League is the UAE's senior league. On 23 October 2026, Elite Prospects showed six teams three games into the 2026-27 season:

Only two of the six are Dubai-based. We found no central league registration. You join by contacting a club. This is a competitive league, so expect to be asked about your playing history. If you are new or out of practice, an adult programme or pick-up is the better first step.

See the Dubai Mighty Camels and Galaxy Hockey pages for contact routes.

Are there adult tournaments?

Yes, both local and visiting.

Galaxy's tournaments page says its Warriors 40+ team won gold at the President's Cup in Bishkek in May to June 2026, and an adult Warriors side won in Hong Kong in 2025-26. That shows the club travels with adult teams.

The ATHL page does not say whether USD 1,400 is per player or per team. Ask before you budget. Our tournaments guide lists youth and adult events together.

What about new rinks?

Two new venues could add adult ice time, but neither was confirmed open when we checked:

• GLXY Sport Hub / Galaxy Arena, Oud Metha: Galaxy's hub page shows two ice sheets and 1,600 seats, with a "Coming September 2026" banner and "opening soon". We could not confirm it has opened.
• Emirates Sports Arena, Dubai Sports City: Emirates Sports Group's page says "Opening Spring 2026" with a planned hockey academy. Arab News reported in May 2025 a September 2025 opening. We found no report that it has opened.

The Al Nasr Leisureland rink in Oud Metha, which older articles call a hockey hub, was reported by Gulf News as closing on 30 November 2025. See our Al Nasr status page.

What kit do adults need?

A full set: helmet with cage or visor, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey trousers, shin guards, a protective cup or jill, neck guard, skates and a stick. Goalies need specialist gear.

We have not verified adult kit hire anywhere in Dubai. Galaxy's site says it provides gear for children, and mentions a shop and a used gear section, without detail for adults. Dubai Ice Rink offers blade sharpening from AED 40 a pair (Emaar, October 2026). Ask the club what you can borrow for a trial before buying.

Ice hockey carries a risk of injury. If you have a health condition or past injury, speak to a doctor before you start.

What to check before you act

• Ask Galaxy (or any club) for adult fees in writing, including what happens if you miss sessions.
• Confirm days and times for pick-up; none are published.
• Check what skating level a beginner programme expects.
• Ask whether adult kit can be borrowed for a trial.
• For new rinks, confirm they are open before you plan around them.
• For travel tournaments, check whether the price is per player or per team.
