What a season of ice hockey costs in Dubai, from published fees with dates: academy terms, practice ice, sharpening, kit, tournaments and what to ask.

Short answer

  • Dubai Ice Rink's six-week Hockey Academy costs AED 699 (once a week) or AED 1,200 (twice a week), per Emaar's page.
  • That works out at about AED 117 or AED 100 per 45-minute class.
  • Extra practice on public ice cost AED 100 to AED 140 a session at Dubai Mall in late October 2026; sharpening is from AED 40.
  • Galaxy Hockey Academy lists Season 2026/27 youth fees of AED 17,500 plus VAT (or three trimesters); most other clubs, kit and tournament costs are unpublished.

A season of ice hockey in Dubai can cost from a few thousand dirhams to much more, depending on how often you skate, whether you buy kit and whether you travel. Two youth providers publish fees online: Dubai Ice Rink (AED 699 for a six-week term at one class a week, or AED 1,200 at two a week) and Galaxy Hockey Academy (AED 17,500 plus VAT for the 2026/27 season, or three trimesters). Most other clubs do not publish prices, so the figures below are a framework for asking the right questions, not a quote.

Every hockey-related price we could find on an official page, as of 23 October 2026:

The Emaar Hockey Academy page does not print the year, but its dates (12 October to 18 November, Mondays and Wednesdays) match 2026. It is for ages 6 to 18 and teaches hockey skating technique only, with no hard pucks.

Zayed Sports City's skating academy price sheet for the 2025/2026 season lists half-season (16 sessions of 120 minutes) and full-season (32 sessions) packages from AED 3,150 to AED 8,500. The sheet does not mention hockey, and its columns are not clearly labelled, so treat it as a skating cost, not a hockey one.

What does one class actually cost?

Splitting the Dubai Ice Rink academy fee by class:

Two points matter here. The page says no refunds are issued and missed classes count as absences that cannot be made up. So the real cost per class rises if your child misses sessions. And a 45-minute class is shorter than a 90-minute public session, so compare like with like.

Worked example: one child's season

This example is arithmetic on published prices, not a quote. It assumes a child aged 6 to 18 at Dubai Ice Rink who does the autumn academy term twice a week, then keeps skating with one public session a week.

Change the inputs to fit your plans. Skating at an off-peak AED 85 session at Zayed Sports City instead would cut the extra-skating line to AED 1,700, if you live near Abu Dhabi. A ZSC 12-month membership at AED 4,500 may work out cheaper if you skate several times a week; check what it covers.

The row on further terms is the weakest. Emaar's page lists only the current term. Ask the academy whether later terms run and at what price.

Costs that are rarely published

Club or academy fees. Galaxy Hockey Academy, based at Sport Society Mall in Mirdif, offers a free first session and lists Season 2026/27 youth fees of AED 6,900, 5,900 and 5,600 per trimester, or AED 17,500 for the season, plus 5% VAT. Ask what the fee includes (ice, coaching, kit, tournaments) and what happens if your child stops.

Kit. A full set covers helmet with cage, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey trousers, shin guards, protective cup, neck guard, skates and a stick. We have not verified shop prices in Dubai. Galaxy says it provides gear for children and mentions a used gear section, so you may not need to buy everything at first. Children grow quickly; second-hand kit can make sense, provided helmets meet safety standards and fit properly.

Tournaments. None of the youth organisers we checked publish entry fees. Galaxy lists home events in Mirdif, a GLXY Cup from 30 December 2026 to 4 January 2027, and away trips to Istanbul and Tashkent in autumn 2026. Away events add flights, hotels and visas. See our tournaments guide.

Adult hockey. Adult fees are not published either. As one reference point, ATHL listed its September 2025 adult tournament in Dubai at USD 1,400 including a hotel and extras, without saying whether that is per player or per team. Read our adult ice hockey guide.

What is free?

Watching. Gulf Today reported in November 2024 that the Emirates Hockey League offered free admission in 2024-25. Check whether that still applies this season. At Dubai Ice Rink, one spectator per group watches free during public sessions and extras pay AED 10, per Emaar.

Trials. Galaxy advertises a free first session.

Questions to ask before paying

Use this list with any academy or club:

  1. What is the total price for the season, and how is it billed?
  2. How many sessions, and how long is each one?
  3. What happens if my child misses a class or stops? Is there a refund?
  4. Is kit included, lent or required? Is there a used kit option?
  5. Are tournaments included, optional or expected? What do they cost?
  6. Is there a sibling or multi-term discount?
  7. Is the coach certified, and by which body?

  • Note the no-refund rule on Dubai Ice Rink's academy before paying.
  • Ask whether further terms run after the current one.
  • Do not buy a full set of kit before a trial; ask what can be borrowed.
  • Ask for tournament costs at the start of the season, not after selection.

How much does ice hockey cost per month in Dubai?

Using Dubai Ice Rink's published Hockey Academy fees, twice-weekly classes cost AED 1,200 for six weeks, or about AED 800 for a four-week month. Galaxy Hockey Academy's Season 2026/27 youth fees (AED 17,500 plus VAT for the season) work out at roughly AED 1,750 a month over ten months; other academies do not publish fees, so ask them directly.

Is ice hockey more expensive than other sports in Dubai?

We have not compared it with other sports. Hockey costs include ice time, coaching, protective kit, sharpening and often travel, which add up over a season.

Does Galaxy Hockey Academy publish its fees?
