Al Nasr Leisureland's ice rink in Oud Metha was reported closing from 30 November 2025, after more than four decades. Gulf News reported it, and no official reason was given. As of 23 October 2026 we have found no official statement that it has reopened, so treat it as closed and check before you go.

This page sets out what was reported, what is still unconfirmed and where skaters and hockey players have gone since.

What happened to Al Nasr Leisureland ice rink?

Gulf News published the closure report in late November 2025. The article was last updated on 28 November 2025. According to that report:

  • The ice rink would close from 30 November.
  • The rink had been open since 1979.
  • No official reason had been given. Some staff reportedly mentioned planned major works, but the paper did not confirm this.
  • The venue's website had gone, and its domain was listed for sale.
  • Officials said a statement was being prepared. None had been issued at the time of writing.
  • Talk of the whole of Leisureland closing was reported as rumour, not fact.

The article does not print the year beside "30 November". Its update date, 28 November 2025, points to 2025.

Earlier signs

A Reddit thread on r/dubai, which an archive dates to around mid-2025, asked whether the rink had closed because Google Maps showed it as "temporarily closed". Replies disagreed. This is secondary, unverified information. We include it only because it shows people were already unsure months before the Gulf News report.

Is Al Nasr ice rink open now?

We cannot confirm that it is. As of 23 October 2026:

Still listed as open elsewhere? Yes, on some portal guides Property Finder (Dec 2025), Bayut (undated), AskExplorer (undated)

If you hear it has reopened, please tell us with a source and we will update this page.

Why do some websites still list Al Nasr as open?

Several popular guides were written before the closure or have not been updated:

  • Gulf News "where to go ice skating" list, last updated 19 July 2025, listed Al Nasr with entry from AED 40. That was before the closure report.
  • Property Finder, modified 9 December 2025, still listed it and described it as a hub for hockey.
  • Bayut and AskExplorer pages, both undated, still include it.

These are not wrong because of bad intent. They are simply stale. Prices and details on them should not be relied on.

Where can I skate or play hockey instead?

As of 23 October 2026, two Dubai rinks are open and run skating and hockey. A full list is in ice hockey in Dubai: every rink and club.

Rink Area Public skating Hockey Source
Dubai Ice Rink Dubai Mall, Downtown Yes; AED 100–140 a session (19–31 Oct 2026 table, dubaiicerink.com) Hockey Academy ages 6–18; hosts hockey games and practices Emaar; dubaiicerink.com
Sport Society Ice Rink Mirdif Yes; prices not on its site Galaxy Hockey Academy ssicerink.com; glxyhockey.com

The Galleria Ice Rink at Hyatt Regency Deira also appears on older lists. Gulf News listed it in July 2025 at AED 55 on weekdays and AED 65 at weekends. Its current status is unconfirmed as of 23 October 2026.

Worked example: an Oud Metha skater's options

Say you used to skate at Al Nasr on a weekday evening. Dubai Ice Rink in Downtown is nearer to Oud Metha than Mirdif, and its own site says it is open daily until 23:45. A weekday evening session there cost AED 125 in the rink's 19–31 October 2026 price table, with skates and socks included. Sport Society in Mirdif is further but is home to a hockey academy. Check our Dubai Mall ice rink prices page before you go.

What about the new rink in Oud Metha?

Galaxy Hockey has announced the GLXY Sport Hub, also called Galaxy Arena, in Oud Metha. Its hub page describes two ice sheets, an NHL-size main rink and a training rink, with 1,600 seats and a planned pro shop. On 23 October 2026 the page still said "Coming September 2026" and "Opening soon".

Two points matter:

  1. It is announced, not confirmed open. We found no opening announcement.
  2. We have no source linking it to Al Nasr. Both are in Oud Metha, but no source we have read says the new arena is on the former Al Nasr site or replaces it. We will not assume it.

Emirates Sports Arena in Dubai Sports City is also announced. Its operator's page says "Opening Spring 2026", and we found no opening announcement as of 23 October 2026.

How to check whether Al Nasr has reopened

Because the rink's website went offline in 2025, there is no single page to check. If you want to know whether it is open today:

  1. Look for a dated news report. A reopening would most likely be reported in the local press, as the closure was. Check the date on the article, not just the headline, and look for a named spokesperson or operator statement.
  2. Be careful with map listings. Google Maps showed "temporarily closed" in 2025, according to the Reddit thread. A map label is not an announcement.
  3. Be careful with portal lists. Property Finder, Bayut and AskExplorer pages may not have been updated.
  4. Ask the hockey community. Clubs and academies that now train elsewhere will know quickly if ice becomes available in Oud Metha again.

If you bought a package or membership before the closure, we do not know how refunds were handled. Contact Al Nasr Club directly and keep your receipts.

What did Al Nasr mean for Dubai hockey?

AskExplorer's undated hockey page says ice hockey has been a local fixture since Al Nasr Leisureland opened in 1979, and describes Dubai Ice Rink as a second venue. For many years it was the rink that hockey guides pointed to first.

What does this mean for hockey in Dubai now?

Al Nasr was the rink older guides send hockey players to. With it reported closed, Dubai hockey has moved to Dubai Mall and Mirdif. Adult players looking for ice time should read adult ice hockey in Dubai. Parents should read kids' ice hockey in Dubai.

What to check before you act

  • Call before travelling to Oud Metha; do not rely on Google Maps or 2025 lists.
  • Ignore Al Nasr prices on older portal pages.
  • Treat GLXY Sport Hub and Emirates Sports Arena as announced until they confirm opening.
  • Check current public session prices on the rink's own site.
  • Send us a dated source if Al Nasr reopens or a statement is issued.
